American studies is a flexible degree program that allows students to study American culture and society from an interdisciplinary perspective. The major encourages independence and individuality as it offers students a unique opportunity to structure their own education and to take advantage of the resources of multiple departments at Lafayette.

Note: As of Academic Year 2016-2017, there is no longer a formal major in American Studies. Please contact Professor Belletto if you are interested in creating a self-designed major in American Studies.

The major brings together American studies core courses and a wide array of electives based in academic departments.

American studies is unique in its efforts to combine distinct fields of inquiry. It investigates, for example, where history merges with literature or where art intersects with anthropology.
